Title: Nurse Practitioner - Psychiatric ED
Location: Alaska-Anchorage

Providence is calling a full time nurse practitioner for the psychiatric emergency department at Providence Alaska Medical Center in Anchorage, Alaska.

In this position, you will:
*
Perform comprehensive assessments of patients and the relevant systems to formulate diagnoses and plan appropriate interventions.
*
Formulate diagnostic impressions related to psychiatric and substance use disorders.
*
Develop and implement a plan of care and recommends to the attending physician to attain optimal patient function including pharmacological interventions.
*
Provide crisis intervention for patients and their families to help resolve situation/environmental emergencies, to restore and stabilize appropriate level of functioning and increase ability to problem solve.
*
If inpatient treatment is necessary, arrange for appropriate level of placement (e.g., voluntary vs. involuntary).
*
Demonstrate professional attitude and ability to communicate with co-workers, physicians and other members of a multi-disciplinary team.
*
Clearly communicate with the attending ED Physicians regarding the ongoing care of the patient, and promptly relay any medical problems and other pertinent information arising in the Psychiatric Emergency Department.
*
Demonstrates knowledge of relevant state and federal laws, e.g., Involuntary Commitment, Duty-to-Protect, Confidentiality, EMTALA.
*
Responsible for running the daily operations of the Psychiatric Emergency Department and/or being in charge during a given shift.
*
Qualifications for this position include:

* Education:Master’s degree in psychiatric/mental health nursing.
*
Experience:Experience in psychiatric and substance abuse evaluation, diagnosis and treatment. Experience in crisis intervention.
*
Licensure/Certification:Current Advanced Nurse Practitioner with prescriptive authority. Current Certified Clinical Nurse Specialist in Adult Psychiatric/Mental Health Nursing. Current DEA certificate.
*
Other Qualifications: Experience in psychiatric/substance abuse assessment, diagnosis and treatment planning for children and adolescents. Certification as a Clinical Nurse Specialist in Child and Adolescent Psychiatric/Mental Health Nursing desirable, but not required.
